When it comes to margarita recipes, I can’t help but be excited. My favorite, of course, is the lime margarita.

But there’s also the sweet surprise of the strawberry margarita. And flavors like mango and coconut add their own margarita magic.

My takes on the classic recipes are super simple and super refreshing. And in my world, the only thing better than a margarita is two margaritas, which is why I’ve doubled the recipes here.

The 14 Best margarita recipes

1. Classic Lime Margarita

1. Classic Lime Margarita

A refreshing cocktail that emphasizes tequila, Cointreau or triple sec, and freshly squeezed lime juice is the Classic Lime Margarita. It is served over ice, and you can opt for a salted rim and a lime garnish.

Ingredients
2 ounces tequila
1 ounce Cointreau or triple sec
1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup (optional, to taste)
Ice cubes
Lime wheel or wedge for garnish
Coarse salt for rimming the glass (optional)

Instructions

1. If you like, you can chill the glass first. I don’t always have room in the freezer, so I often use a frosted glass instead. If you don’t have a way to chill the glass, just go ahead and make the drink. It’ll be delicious either way!

2. In a cocktail shaker, mix tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and simple syrup with ice.

3. Mix thoroughly and ensure the concoction is cold.

4. Pour the strained mixture into the prepared glass over fresh ice and garnish with a lime wheel or wedge.

2. Strawberry Margarita

2. Strawberry Margarita

Ingredients

1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
2 oz tequila
1 oz triple sec
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon simple syrup
Ice cubes
Salt or sugar for rimming (optional)

Instructions

1. You can rim the edge of a glass with salt or sugar if you wish by taking a lime wedge and rubbing it on the rim of the glass and then dipping the glass into a small plate of salt or sugar.

2. Combine in a blender the strawberries, tequila, triple sec, lime juice, simple syrup, and a handful of ice cubes.

3. Mix until not a single lump remains, then taste for sweetness. If it isn’t sweet enough for your liking, dollop in some simple syrup.

4. Immediately serve the mixed concoction in the prepared glasses and enjoy your fresh Strawberry Margarita!

3. Mango Margarita

3. Mango Margarita

A Mango Margarita is a sun-drenched cocktail that combines fresh mango, straight from the tropics, with the typical Margarita components of lime, tequila, and orange liqueur. What sets the Mango Margarita apart (and makes it so delicious!) is the use of fresh, ripe mango and blending it into the Margarita rather than just using mango juice or flavored syrup.

An added bonus is the purée brightens the drink even more.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh mango chunks (or frozen mango, thawed)
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/4 cup silver tequila
  • 2 tablespoons triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 tablespoon agave syrup (or simple syrup)
  • Ice cubes
  • Salt or sugar for rimming the glass (optional)

#

Instructions

1. Get your glasses ready by taking a lime wedge and rubbing it around the rim of each glass. If you want to get fancy, go ahead and dip the rims in either salt or sugar.

2. In a blender, combine the mango chunks, lime juice, tequila, triple sec, and agave syrup. Blend until smooth.

3. Put ice cubes in the blender and keep blending until the slush is smooth.

4. Transfer the completed mango margarita into the ready glasses and serve without delay. Savor the experience!

4. Frozen Margarita

4. Frozen Margarita

1 oz triple sec (such as Cointreau)
1 oz simple syrup

5. Jalapeño Margarita

5. Jalapeño Margarita

A Jalapeño Margarita places a spicy twist on the classic cocktail. It takes tequila, fresh lime juice, orange liqueur, and simple syrup, but then adds muddled jalapeño slices to the mix.

The result is a refreshing drink with a seriously spicy kick, made even more intense when it’s served in a glass rimmed with salt or chili powder.

  • 1 oz cream of coconut
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup

3. Put ice in the shaker, then shake hard until the contents are very cold.

11. Watermelon Basil Margarita

11. Watermelon Basil Margarita

2 cups fresh watermelon, cubed

5 fresh basil leaves

12. Pomegranate Margarita

12. Pomegranate Margarita

The Pomegranate Margarita is a colorful and flavorful cocktail made with silver tequila, triple sec, and fresh lime juice, all of which balance the tartness of pomegranate juice. Simple syrup adds just enough sweetness to bring the drink together.

I like to add a little sea salt to the rim of my glass to contrast the flavors in the cocktail.

Ingredients

2 oz silver tequila
1 oz triple sec or Cointreau
1 oz fresh lime juice
2 oz pomegranate juice
1 oz simple syrup
Lime wedge for garnish
Coarse salt for rimming glass (optional)

Instructions

1. Run a lime wedge along the rim of a glass, wetting it sufficiently, and dip the rim in coarse salt to coat it. Pack the glass with ice and set it aside.

2. A cocktail shaker is not a vessel to be ignored. It stands there regal and motionless, until you make it your vessel, your vehicle for change. In a cocktail shaker, you transform ingredients (liquid in this case) from still life into a snapshot of a moment when they are together, but not quite together; they are in the process of becoming cocktails. You shake them, natch, to coldness first. Then you pour them out into glassware, leaving behind the ritual of the cocktail itself.

3. Pour the mixture through a strainer into the prepared glass.

4. Add a lime wedge for garnish, and enjoy the pomegranate margarita!
