As Dry January nears, I know that I’ll be able to experimenting with some delightful invigorating nonalcoholic cocktail recipes. I love to work with vibrant, fresh ingredients such as citrus fruits, herbs, or berries to create poignant flavors.

When crafting a cocktail, I usually rely on a bubbly foundation, like soda water or ginger ale. They deliver the kind of effervescence that I love.

Using fruit juices and purees in my drinks allows me to achieve natural sweetness without turning to granulated or liquid sugars.

Here I review some of my best mocktails I make during Dry January.

Ingredients

1 cup fresh orange juice

Instructions

It’s bright pink, with mixed berries muddled throughout. And if you’re really dying for a garnish idea: a whole mint sprig in the top of the drink will get you halfway to a mojito.

Ingredients

Mixed berries (such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
Fresh mint leaves
Lime juice
Simple syrup
Sparkling water
Ice cubes
Lime slices (for garnish)
Additional mint sprigs (for garnish)

Instructions

1. In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, muddle a small handful of mixed berries and a couple of sprigs of mint to release their flavors.

2. To the muddled mixture, add one to two tablespoons of lime juice and one to two tablespoons of simple syrup.

3. Take a glass and fill it with ice cubes. Then, top it off with sparkling water until the glass is full.

I take great joy in creating invigorating non-alcoholic mixed drinks, and the one I whip up for a Dry January features plenty of sunny, pineapple juice, crisp, coconut water, and lip-puckering passion fruit juice, with just a hint of lime. When I want a mocktail that tastes truly tropical, I pour a generous portion over ice and top it all off with sparkling water.

The combination is something to sip on while pretending to be somewhere warm and sunny.

Ingredients

1 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup coconut water
1/4 cup passion fruit juice
1/4 lime, juiced
1/2 cup sparkling water
Ice cubes
Pineapple and lime slices for garnish
Mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

1. An ice-filled shaker or mixing glass is essential.

2. First, pour in the pineapple juice. It’s a sweet way to start your drink. After that tropical wave, the flavor of coconut water will hit you. That’s the first flavor you taste in this coconut drink. Then, the coconut flavor is followed by tart passion fruit juice, which mixes well with lime juice.

3. Mix the combination with either a shaking or stirring motion until it is thoroughly chilled.

4. Pour the mixture into a serving glass filled with ice cubes.

1. To begin, take fresh ginger and grate it. You should have approximately 1/4 cup when you are done.

2. In a jug, mix the ginger with honey or agave syrup and fresh lime juice.

It’s a balanced drink devoid of any heavy or overbearing flavors. The cucumber, lime, and sweetener (if you choose to use one) are its stars—dressed in a simple robe of mint and effervescent water.

That’s the way I like to make it.

Ingredients

1 cucumber
1 lime
1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup (optional)
1 cup sparkling water
Ice cubes
Fresh mint leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

1. Take half of the cucumber, peel it, and slice it. Reserve a few of the slices for garnishing.

2. Extract the juice from the lime, setting aside a couple of slices if you wish to use them as a garnish.

3. Mix together the sliced cucumber, lime juice, and honey (or agave syrup, if using) in a blender until smooth.

4. Pour the combined mixture through a fine mesh sieve or a piece of cheesecloth into a bowl to remove the pulp.

5. Take a glass and fill it with ice cubes, then pour the strained mixture over the ice.

These two ingredients are combined with ice and shaken until the mixture is exquisitely cold and blended to perfection. Adding a lovely finishing touch is the garnish of pineapple wedges and toasted coconut flakes.

Ingredients

1 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 tablespoon simple syrup
Pineapple wedges, for garnish
Toasted coconut flakes, for garnish

Instructions

1. Pineapple juice, coconut milk, lime juice, and simple syrup come together in a shaker.

2. Add ice cubes to the shaker, fasten the lid, and shake energetically until the contents are well chilled.

The Passion Fruit Sparkle Mocktail is one I love to craft. It brings together freshly scooped passion fruit pulp, fresh lime juice, a whisper of simple syrup, and the most essential ingredient—sparkling water—to create a drink that’s hard to match for refreshing flavor.

Lime slices and mint leaves make an attractive garnish, giving it a pop of color that suits any event.

Ingredients

Fresh passion fruit pulp (from about 2 passion fruits)
1 cup passion fruit juice
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 tablespoon simple syrup (or to taste)
Sparkling water or club soda
Ice cubes
Lime slices and mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

1. Begin by slicing the passion fruits in half and extracting the pulp into a bowl. Put it to the side for now.

2. In a substantial pitcher, bring together the pulp of the passion fruit, the juice from the passion fruit, the juice from the lime, and a simple syrup, that is to say, a sugar solution of limited concentration. Mix well.

3. Take each glass and fill it with ice cubes. Pour the mixture into the glasses, filling them about two-thirds full.

4. Fill each glass to the brim with sparkling water or club soda and stir gently to combine.

I take particular pleasure in mixing up a non-alcoholic Peach Bellini when January’s sobriety calls upon me to craft drinks free of intoxicating ingredients.

Ingredients


1 cup peach nectar or juice
1 cup sparkling water or club soda
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 to 2 teaspoons honey or simple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
Fresh peach slices, for garnish (optional)
Fresh mint leaves, for garnish (optional)
Ice cubes

Instructions

1. In a pitcher, mix peach nectar or juice with juice from fresh lemons. Stir to combine.

2. If you prefer a sweeter flavor, you can add honey or simple syrup to the pitcher, and stir until the mixture is fully combined.

3. Take single glasses and fill them with ice cubes. Then pour the diluted peach and lemon juice evenly into each glass.

4. Gently combine the sparkling water or club soda with the contents of each glass by pouring it in slowly and stirring just enough to mix everything without letting it get too frothy.

5. If you wish, you may add fresh peach and mint leaf garnishes just before you serve this dish.

10. Watermelon Basil Mocktail Mix

My idea of summer refreshment is a combination of freshly pureed watermelon and basil. This non-alcoholic cocktail is a mix of cubed watermelon, the juice of fresh limes, and the aromatic basil leaves.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh watermelon, cubed
  • 8-10 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon agave syrup or honey (optional)
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water or club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedges and basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

1. Put the watermelon chunks into a blender and blend until smooth.

2. Sieve the watermelon juice through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher to remove the pulp.

3. To release the flavor of the basil leaves, add them to the pitcher and gently muddle them with a wooden spoon.

4. Add the lime juice and, if you wish, agave syrup or honey as sweeteners. Mix well.

5. Ice cubes are placed in glasses. Mixtures of watermelon and basil are poured into the glasses until they are about half full. Helium is then poured into the glasses, in which there is now a watermelon-basil drink, until these glasses are full.

6. Before serving, add lime wedges and sprigs of basil for garnish. Savor your revitalizing Watermelon Basil Mocktail!

11. Dry January Mango Mule

Creating colorful and tasty non-alcoholic drinks—and there aren’t nearly enough of them— is my jam. Crafting a drink that is both sophisticated and refreshing and that can be enjoyed by anyone, no matter  is a prized skill, one I’ve been blessed with.

The Mango Mule is one of my signature drinks, and it’s a delight for anyone who loves tropical flavors, from me to you. The base is ripe mango, honey, and lime juice.

The kicker is the non-alcoholic ginger beer I pour over it.

Ingredients

1 cup ripe mango chunks (fresh or frozen)
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup
1/2 cup ginger beer (non-alcoholic)
1/4 cup club soda
Ice cubes
Lime wheels, for garnish
Fresh mint leaves, for garnish

Instructions

1. Using a blender, combine the mango pieces and puree them into a smooth consistency.

2. A shaker holds the ingredients for this drink: mango puree, lime juice, and honey or agave syrup. They are put there in almost equal measures, give or take, and then shaken.

3. Take a glass and fill it with ice cubes. Then, take the mixture of mango and pour it over the ice.

4. Pour ginger beer into the glass, then follow with club soda, and stir gently to mix.

5. Decorate with wheels of lime and sprigs of fresh mint. 

12. Blue Lagoon Mocktail Breeze

It brings me so much joy to create a masterpiece of visuals with my delightfully refreshing Blue Lagoon Mocktail Breeze. When I combine lemonade and blue curaçao syrup, I get a drink that truly astounds with its presentation.

The layers of my drink are just stunning, and when you top it off with some lemon-lime soda, it only gets better. Just garnishing it with some lemon wheels and maraschino cherries is an impressive touch, making this mocktail a truly masterpiece of a drink.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup lemonade
  • 1/2 cup blue curaçao syrup (non-alcoholic)
  • 1/2 cup lemon-lime soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices, for garnish
  • Maraschino cherries, for garnish
  • Mint leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. Fill a glass to the brim with ice cubes.

2. Fill half the glass with lemonade.

3. Carefully pour the blue curaçao syrup into the glass, letting it mingle with the lemonade without forcing it to mix.

4. Finish filling the glass with lemon-lime soda, adding it very slowly so that the layers remain distinct.

5. If you wish, stir gently to blend everything together, but maintain the appearance of the separate layers.

6. Before serving, add a slice of lemon, a maraschino cherry, and some optional mint leaves as a garnish.

I enjoy crafting delightful and invigorating drinks for Dry January. My version of the classic Raspberry Lemonade combines fresh raspberries and lemon juice with a touch of honey or agave to sweeten this drink.

The ingredients are brightened with chilled sparkling water, and the drink is garnished with thinly sliced lemons and fresh mint. It’s a delightful mocktail to enjoy at any get-together or simply at home while kicking back and relaxing.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh raspberries
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup honey or agave syrup
  • 3 cups sparkling water or club soda, chilled
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices, for garnish
  • Fresh mint leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. Take the fresh raspberries, lemon juice, and honey (or agave syrup) and place them into a blender. Blend the mixture until it reaches a smooth consistency.

2. Pass the raspberry mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher. Press down on the solids; they should yield a good amount of liquid. Enjoy your drink!

3. To the pitcher, add the sparkling water or club soda, well chilled, and stir gently to combine.

4. Pour the raspberry lemonade blend over the ice after filling glasses with tumbling ice.

5. Lemon slices and fresh mint leaves can be used to garnish each glass, if you like.

The Grapefruit Rosemary Mocktail is a revitalizing drink that sees fresh grapefruit juice, sparkling water, and rosemary syrup come together in a delightful family of flavors—grapefruit is so dangerously sour that it bounces with flavor. 

Ingredients

Fresh grapefruit juice
Sparkling water
Rosemary simple syrup
Ice cubes
Fresh grapefruit slices, for garnish
Fresh rosemary sprigs, for garnish

Instructions

1. Start by creating the rosemary simple syrup. In a saucepan, mix together equal amounts of water and sugar, and add several sprigs of fresh rosemary. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved. Allow the syrup to cool before straining out the rosemary.

2. To chill your drink, fill a glass with ice cubes.

3. Pour the fresh grapefruit juice into the glass, filling it about halfway.

4. To taste, add a splash of simple syrup made with rosemary.

5. Finish by adding the sparkling water and stir gently to mix.

6. Adorn your Grapefruit Rosemary Mocktail with a fresh slice of grapefruit and a sprig of rosemary. Serve right away.

During Dry January, I savor the reinvigorating Apple Cider Fizz. This delightful mocktail is a simple blend of apple cider, ginger beer, and a touch of lemon, all punctuated with ground cinnamon (or, if you’re feeling fancy, a piece of a cinnamon stick for garnish).

Depending on the quantity or ratio of these four ingredients, the Apple Cider Fizz can be a serious sipper, a not-too-sweet cocktail, or a kind of combination drink that you could also call a “flight” of Apple Cider Fizz variances.

Ingredients

1 cup apple cider
1/2 cup ginger beer
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Ice cubes
Apple slices, for garnish
Cinnamon stick, for garnish

Instructions

1. In a large glass or shaker, mix the apple cider, ginger beer, lemon juice, and ground cinnamon.

2. Mix the ingredients very well by stirring or shaking.

3. Take a glass for serving and fill it with ice cubes.

4. Pour the apple cider mixture over ice.

5. Add apple slices and a cinnamon stick for decoration.

6. Enjoy your refreshing Apple Cider Fizz. Serve it right away for the best taste.

16. Kiwi Mint Mocktail Elixir

16. Kiwi Mint Mocktail Elixir

The Kiwi Mint Mocktail Elixir is a delightful drink with a wonderful taste from the blend of ripe kiwis and fresh mint; it is a drink that anyone would be happy to serve when entertaining. A simple mixture of just those two ingredients with a splash of lime juice and some honey, if you like your drinks a little sweet, gives you a very refreshing drink.

Serve it over ice with some sparkling water and you have a drink good enough to make it onto the Mocktail menu of any bar.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe kiwis, peeled and chopped
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup (optional)
  • 1 cup sparkling water or soda water
  • Ice cubes
  • Extra mint leaves and kiwi slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. Take the diced kiwis, mint leaves, lime juice, and honey or agave syrup and put them inside a blender. Blend them together until they reach a completely smooth state.

2. Pour the kiwi mint mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher to catch the pulp.

3. Take a glass and pack it with ice cubes. Then, pour the strained elixir made from kiwis and mint over the ice.

4. Complete the filling of the glass with sparkling water or soda water, and stir very gently to mix.

5. If you want to, you can add extra mint leaves and saffron slices to the garnish. Then serve the dish without delay.
