The 16 Best Halloween Brownies and recipes
1. Spooky Spider Brownies
This time of year, I get all caught up in Halloween treats: rich cocoa powder and creamy butter softly melded together with a touch of sugar!
Nothing beats a few chocolate chips to sweeten the deal, though, and the spider legs – which are made from licorice – put these candy confections over the edge, making them highly spooky (and delicious).
Join me in making this trick-or-treat candy that’s both fun and macabre!
Ingredients
- 1 box brownie mix (plus eggs, oil and water called for on box)
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 24 mini peanut butter cups
- 1/2 cup chocolate frosting
- 1/4 cup white icing or candy melts
- Black licorice laces or string (for spider legs)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a baking pan.
2. Prepare the brownie mix according to the package directions. Stir the semisweet chocolate chips into the batter and then pour it into the prepared pan.
3. Bake until done, or about 20-25 minutes. Make sure to allow them to cool completely in the pan.
4. Once cooled, cut into squares, then press a mini peanut butter cup into each square and ‘glue’ it in place with a bit of chocolate frosting.
5. Break out the black licorice laces and cut them to various lengths for spider legs, then place 6-8 legs around each peanut butter cup.
6. Pipe the eyes for each peanut butter cup spider using white icing or the melted candy melts. Allow to set before serving.
2. Ghostly Ganache Brownies
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- Black icing pen (for decorating faces)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
2. Melt the butter in a large bowl, then mix in the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
3. Fold in the flour and baking powder until just combined.
4. Pour in the mix, allowing it to smooth itself out on the bottom of the tray, and shake it gently to distribute it evenly across the base.
3. Sift together the flour, the cocoa powder, the baking powder, and the salt. Slowly add to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined. Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and stir.
4. Spread the brownie batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan.
5. To make the ganache, bring the heavy cream to just a simmer in a small saucepan, then pour it over the chopped dark chocolate. Leave it for a minute, then stir until melted. Spread it over the cooled brownies.
6. Decorate by dropping little clumps of the mini marshmallows on top of the ganache, to look like little ghost shapes. Give them eyes and spooky faces with the black icing pen, then let set before chopping into squares and serving.
3. Monster Mash Brownies
Looking for a scary sweet? I’m right here to help!
When I make my brownies, I like to go all out. I use a coffee-rich cocoa powder, then I throw in some chunks of dark chocolate.

For fun, though, I add candy eyes on top.

6. Zombie Graveyard Brownies
I have to admit that, a year round, thinking about Halloween goodies gets my creative juices flowing. From the rich fudgy color of cocoa powder and to recipes using fluffy white marshmallows topped with spooky chocolate ganache, to the haunting decorations of white ghostly fondant, crushed chocolate cookie ‘soil’ and lots of candy bones.
Ingredients
- 1 box brownie mix (plus other ingredients as listed on box, generally eggs, oil and water)
- 1 cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies

- 1 cup green icing
- Black food coloring pen

4. Ice the cooled brownies with a thin green icing and sprinkle crushed cookies over the top for the graveyard effect.
5. Use the black food color pen to write spooky messages on the Milano cookies (like ‘RIP’ to make tombstones) and then insert them into the brownies vertically.
6. Add gummy worms for wiggling tails and chocolate chips for eyes to finish the graveyard look. Optional: add more patches of green icing or other decorative candies.
7. Candy Corn Swirl Brownies
I like to add seasonal details to classic baked goods – these brownies are a celebration of chocolate and candy corn, two favorite fall flavors that blend together perfectly while also adding pops of color: a swirl of orange, yellow and white candy corn against the strong chocolate background. It’s almost too pretty to eat, but I can’t help but to dig in.
With a few pantry staples – cocoa powder, butter, sugar – and my favorite candy, I can whip up these vibrant brownies for a holiday party or recipe swap. It’s always a big hit with friends and family.

9. Eyeball Brownies
These are really fun to make for Halloween parties and they never fail to impress. What’s not to love about a combination of cocoa powder, sugar and butter, which are the basic ingredients, and then adding the rich taste of chocolate chips for a real chocolate delight.
And finally, I can’t leave out that wonderful hint of vanilla. I think these are great fun to make, especially the ‘eyeballs.’ I use marshmallows and candy eyeballs.

10. Vampire Bite Brownies
This richly chocolatey, blood red, tangy berry studded Halloween treat is the centerpiece of my recipe for the spookiest (and tastiest) Halloween party ever. As a Halloween-lover always looking for inspiration, there were many inexpensive and easy finds at the local store that provided the magic ingredients for these ghoulish blood-bite goodies: cocoa powder, dark chocolate, red food dye and raspberry jam.
The sea salt is my secret ingredient, (to balance the sweetness and enhance the flavor of the chocolate). So, turn up the oven and get ready for these devilishly delicious treats!
Ingredients
- 1 box of brownie mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)
- 1 cup of cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Red food coloring
- 1/4 cup seedless raspberry or strawberry jam
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to the temperature recommended on the brownie mix box. Make the brownie batter as directed on the box, and pour it into a greased baking pan.

4. Bake the brownies as per box instructions. Check for doneness about 5-10 minutes earlier than the minimum cooking time, as cream cheese mixture may adversely affect baking time.
5. Let the brownies cool completely. In the meantime, mix a few drops of red food coloring into the jam to make it look like blood.
6. Use a small spoon or a piping bag to make “bite marks”, and little red drops on the cooled brownies with the colored jam.Enjoy your spooky Vampire Bite Brownies!
11. Frankenstein’s Monster Brownies
Making these treats is a veritable Frankenstein’s Lair of Fun! Cocoa powder and chunks of chocolate make these brownies bright, bold and a chocolate scavenger’s paradise.
